A million hours worked on SRL

Back to Newsfeed

In just over two years of geotechnical investigations, workers have clocked up over 1 million hours as works on Suburban Rail Loop ramp up ahead of start of construction in 2022.

More than 500 drill sites and nine kilometres of ground have been drilled as part of geotechnical investigations between Cheltenham and Box Hill. Together with hundreds of other land and ground water surveys, and around 10,000 laboratory tests, the investigations underway will help plan the alignment of the 26-kilometre twin tunnel for SRL East.

Initial and Early Works on SRL East will kick off in 2022, creating 800 early direct jobs and paving the way for major construction.

These works will enable launch sites to be prepared for tunnel boring machines, and include upgrades to road and power supply, building new sub-stations, and relocating gas, water and other utilities.
